Tulpa Tales: The Island
Synopsis
A young man wakes up without any memories with the sole information that he is to perform specific daily tasks. However, he soon finds out that he isn’t alone on the island…
A story about self-sabotage and loneliness with elements of horror, Tibetan Buddhist mythology and lots of symbolism.
A success story
Tulpa Tales: The Island won great recognition in the form of international awards and nominations at festivals and exhibitions. Its psychological approach moved many viewers, including famous filmmakers such as Rogério Sagui, Déo Cardoso and Silvio Tendler.
The Braig Brothers made headlines in their region and were even interviewed about the film on statal television channel TVE Bahia. Check it out below.
It was also selected as one of 33 films out of more than 1600 submitted to the 2022 Mostra Sesc Bahia.
That same year it was shown at the Prowinzkino cinema in Simmern, Germany.
Trivia
- The main cast is made up of just one person: Tales Braig.
- Aiky developed a special technique to perform the character multiplications by programming his gimble to create this effect even with camera movement.
- The movie’s soundtrack carries deep meanings in its composition.
- There was one person who approached the Braig Brothers saying that he had seen the movie 15 times.
- The brothers’ father took on the role of a body double in some scenes and then, when it the time came to watch the movie, he got confused and didn’t recognize himself, thinking that there were actually two Tales Braigs.
- Tales Braig himself became convinced that the characters were separate people when he watched the final film, remembering the shooting of some perspectives more than others.
- The duplications were highly stressful because they required quick costume and make-up changes.
- The colors and costumes have deep layers of meaning that you often only realize by watching the film more than once.
- For the the hammer strike, Tales mimicked the impact in the air so well that his elbow hurt as if he had actually hit something.
- To create the rays of light entering the shed, the only way to get strong enough lighting was to divert the sun with mirrors to the windows. The only problem: one of the helpers holding the mirrors got sick from the heat and fainted!
- Aiky and Tales were only 19 and 23 years old during the film’s production and the release took place the day before Aiky Braig’s 20th birthday.
- The movie has subtitles in German, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, English, Spanish, French and Italian.

The best summary of the audacity of this project.
The entire technical team, director and cast seizing the rainy day.
Shed, light and lots of smoke.
And from the outside, the origin of light…
The body double who afterwards forgot it was him when he was watching the movie.
Stress on the set before the strike, the biggest technical challenge.
It’s the result that counts.
Pretending to be unconscious in the midst of mosquitoes and horseflies was interesting…
Run! You have to run!

Tulpa Tales: The Harbour
Series concept in development. A continuation of the story of Tulpa Tales: The Island, but without requiring the audience to have watched it before. It will deal with Alfredo’s journey after the events of the medium-length film and his difficulties in the city, his anguish, social anxiety and, of course, many new Tulpas. 😉
